Me that’s who! My name is William Brown and I enjoy pushing my body and mind to limits most people either have no interest in or think are absurd. I have a love for the outdoors and try to live an active healthy lifestyle. I had an incredible year of first last year, I completed my first marathon, my first ultra-marathon, and first my 50 mile run which contributed to me starting this project.
I decided that I wanted to build on last years experiences so in addition to new races I decided that I wanted to see what it is like to live without a car for a minimum of 6 months. I have imposed a limit on the distance that I will travel without a car to a 25 mile radius. Which means I could potentially have a 50 mile round trip journey. Any distance greater than 25 miles I will be using a car or some means of public/private transportation.
Starting on March 1st 2011 and tentatively ending on September 1st 2011 a minimum of six months. The final limit will be decided at the end of the six month period.
This is three fold. One is the obvious to save money from car payments, insurance, gas, and maintenance cost. The second is I would like to raise awareness for a healthy active lifestyle by blogging about my experience. The third is to start or partner with an existing charitable program, where I am able to give back and inspire others to do so.
Any travel that falls within the self imposed twenty five mile radius will be done by one of three methods. Method number one running, method number two bicycle, method number three public transportation. The majority of travel will be either running or bicycling using public transportation as a last resort. This means ANY and ALL traveling I do. I will be keeping a running total of mileage covered by each method.
